Traces of the Ice Age, including eskers and lagoon lakes, are visible everywhere. The area is part of the Rokua Geopark. The fauna represents a transitional zone: the red-necked grebe does not nest on other inland waters, and the Arctic tern and red-necked phalarope are not found further south.
