In the land of the forest reindeer, Salamajärvi is located on the ruggedly beautiful Suomenselkä watershed, known for its diverse marshland ecosystem, wolverines, and a thousand forest reindeer. Numerous pit sites and charcoal kilns tell the story of tar-burning in the Koirajoki primeval forest area. The Peuran Polku is a 77-kilometer trail network along which you can spend the night in tents, lean-tos, cabins, and rental lodges. From the nature observation towers, you can spot wading birds such as the common snipe, wood sandpiper, ruff, green sandpiper, and jack snipe. Cloudberries and cranberries grow in the marshes. Our maps are printed on high-quality Tyvek® material, which is waterproof and tear-resistant. This means you don’t need to protect your map from the rain, and it won’t tear during use. The manufacturer guarantees that the material can withstand 20,000 folds. Thanks to the ingenious page layout, all of the area’s most important hiking destinations fit on a single map.
