Located a couple of peninkulma northeast of the city’s hustle and bustle, the Arctic Circle Hiking Area offers wonderful hiking trails—some of which are accessible to people with disabilities—and the rushing rapids of the Raudanjoki River for everyone to enjoy. The rapids of Vikakönkä are home to whitefish, rainbow trout, and perch—as well as whitewater rafters. In winter, a cross-country skiing or snowshoeing trip takes you into a wilderness atmosphere. In addition to the nationally renowned cross-country ski trails, Ounasvaara features hiking trails and a variety of mountain bike routes.
